Drug abuse at the forefront of local concerns, panel told



To work collaboratively to develop and implement strategies to reduce the use and impacts of methamphetamine in Douglas County.

 



Prevention Committee:  To increase community awareness of the realities contributing to methamphetamine use and the impact on individuals, their families and the community.

Treatment Committee:  Increase and ultimately create adequate Methamphetamine Addiction treatment capacity in Douglas County.

Law Enforcement Committee: 1) Interdiction Initiative – improve the ability of law enforcement to stop the flow of Methamphetamine into and through Douglas County:  a) Deploy drug dogs as part of the patrol function, b) Provide for patrol officer training; 2) Youth Services Initiative – establish a county-wide first time offender program for youth:  a) re-establish RAYS (Roseburg Area Youth Services) program; b) develop strategy to extend first offender program county-wide.

Creating Social Change Committee:  Build social connections for substance abuse prevention and promote community actions around SEVEN of the “40 Assets” identified as key to social maturity in a healthy child.
